How we started

Pearl arrived in 2008 from a breeder who answered every question, sent us home with a folder of paperwork, and still texts us on her birthday. That standard became our whole model. Eighteen years and more than seven hundred placements later, we still whelp every litter in our living room and still answer the phone ourselves.

Ethical breeding, in practice

Ethical breeding is a set of decisions, not a slogan. It means retiring a female after four litters regardless of how good her puppies are. It means refusing double dapple pairings even though white dachshunds with blue eyes sell instantly. It means turning down an approved-on-paper home because the match was wrong, and telling a buyer to wait three months for the right litter.

Health testing

Every breeding parent is OFA patella and cardiac certified and DNA cleared for PRA-cord1, Lafora disease and osteogenesis imperfecta before their first litter. Dilute lines get an additional three-generation coat history review. We send results before deposits, not after.

Early socialisation

Litters begin Early Neurological Stimulation at day three and Puppy Culture protocols from week three. By eight weeks our puppies have met a vacuum cleaner, a doorbell, a car ride, a bath, a nail trim, children, and at least three adults who are not us. Confidence at sixteen weeks is built long before sixteen weeks.

Veterinary care

Our veterinarian examines every litter at eight weeks and signs a health certificate dated within seven days of your pickup. Vaccination and deworming records travel with your puppy, along with a written plan for the boosters your own vet will complete.

Lifetime support

We answer questions for the life of the dog — feeding, training, a rash at 9pm on a Sunday. And if you ever cannot keep your dachshund, at any age, they come back to us rather than to a shelter. That clause is in every contract we write.
